While the 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH and the 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M ASPH are deservedly regarded as star performers in the stable of normal lenses, I have always been partial to the traditional way the Summicron draws a subject. With its creamier colour palette and slightly smoother tonal gradations, it best captures the essential qualities that, for me, add up to the ‘Leica look’. This iteration of the lens employs floating and aspherical elements and incorporates the latest and greatest in optical engineering. Building on the time honoured and natural way the Summicron renders an image, it establishes new benchmarks for optical excellence in any class.
The 50mm f/2.0 Summicron-M ASPH clearly is not inexpensive, but represents the best of the best and an exciting addition to a lens lineup that increasingly caters to the precise needs and tastes of uncompromising photographers.
