Ultra fast and still quite compact, the Leica Summilux-M 24 mm f/1.4 ASPH is a valuable addition to a photojournalist’s arsenal. The lens is tailor-made for available-light photography. Like the 21mm f/1.4, it consists of ten elements in eight groups. Until the advent of state-of-the-art blank-press methods for aspherical lenses, it was not possible to create these new Summilux-M lenses. Hand assembled in Solms, Germany, meticulous craftsmanship ensures long-term reliability even under the most challenging of conditions.
To correct colour imperfections, the 24mm lens incorporates five separate elements with anomalous partial dispersion. As a result, vignetting and distortion, the parameters traditionally difficult to control in fast wide-angle lenses, are corrected so well that they are barely noticeable in practice. Even at f/2.8, only natural vignetting is present. The patented rectangular lens hoods fit Series VII filters.
